We're teaming up with our friends at Workshop PHL to teach you to build your very own terrarium. We’ll teach you how to make tiny desktop gardens from succulents, plants and moss in mason jars. It’s like your own miniature oasis that can travel with you, and it’s easier to care for than your pet rock. Well, almost. Once you know how to make terrariums, you can make larger ones in apothecary jars, large vases or any glass containers. We supply the mason jars, dirt, plants and even little woodland creature cake toppers to inhabit your terrarium. You will learn to make living and moss terrariums and any combination in-between. We’ll discuss succulents, air plants and living and preserved mosses (we will have both). For this class you ll walk out with one medium sized terrarium and one small mini preserved moss terrarium (aka- will never die). You will also leave with a care guide and are welcome to purchase additional mosses to take home.

supplies needed

None. If you would like to bring your own glass jar or vase, feel free! Also, if you would like to make more than one terrarium, bring cash to pay for extra jars and plants. You can bring your own succulents if you have any favorites, as well as you are welcome to bring your own air plants, which we talk about in class but do not include since they are a bit pricey.

About WorshopPHL

Workshop was founded in late 2009 by Kelly Malone & David Knight in the Western Addition neighborhood of San Francisco. With Kelly relocating back home to Philly in early 2014, Workshop will soon open a pop up temporary location in the Fishtown neighborhood on Philadelphia (permanent if it takes off). Workshop offers affordable DIY classes for adults, taught by awesome local teachers, makers, artists, foodies and DIY’ers. Offering classes, from the single class for the commitment-phobics, to the more detailed, multi-day classes for those truly desiring to learn all kinds of fun stuff or just make an awesome project. Workshop lo-fi meaning we keep most classes accessible using affordable equipment you can use at home & low cost. There are no big fundraiser drives, membership or anything crazy here- expect a cute space, some records, a ton of tools and a beer fridge. We also believe in hands on classes, anyone can learn something from a book or online but we create fun experiences with rad teachers. Our classes are meant to be a bit social, so they are fun solo, with a date, friends or even your Mom:) We offer classes, private events & parties, corporate off-sites that don't suck as well.
