Young Artist's Program BBQ

Join us at the NKCDC garden at the corner of Frankford and Berks to dance, eat, drink and maybe even hula hoop on Saturday, August 24th from 5-10pm. BYO t-shirts and things to tie dye while supplies last! Tickets are pay-what-you-wish, but we suggest a $20 donation that gets you food + funky tunes and gives the LGBQTies in our after school program the programming they deserve. Beer will be served for an additional cost. DJ Corey will be spinning on the 1s and 2s all night long :)

In 2017, Lutheran Settlement House chose to discontinue funding their after school program for high school students which provided nutrition education and healthy meals; curricula about safe sex and healthy relationships; artistic and volunteer opportunities; and most importantly, a safe space for youth to come and learn and grow together after school. The ending of this programming meant 12 rising sophomore students would no longer have a place to go after school. The Art Dept, a new artist collective located down the street, learned of this issue and stepped up to support the youth in their community. Since then, the Art Dept. has been running the Young Artist Program, an artist residency for high school youth that operates 4 days a week during the school year for the students who would have otherwise not had a space. These students have been integral in designing the residency and developing curricula that celebrates blackness, queerness and the liberation that art can bring.

Join us in giving these students the programming they deserve by helping us raise $25,000. This money will go towards paying our facilitators a living wage and hiring program alumni to be teaching artists. If you can't make it but would like to donate visit us at
